Privacy Policy

Snack is made by Crimson IO LLC ("we", "us"). This policy explains what Snack does with your information. The short version: your Apple Health data and body measurements stay on your devices, your food log, profile and plan sync through your own iCloud account, and no Snack server ever holds any of it. The one piece of our own infrastructure you touch is a food-search proxy that keeps no logs, holds nothing that identifies you, never passes your IP address on, and caches food-database answers for up to a day, keyed only by what was searched.

What stays on your device

The information you enter and generate in Snack is stored on your device using Apple's SwiftData. Your weight entries, water logs and the readings Snack takes from Apple Health stay on each of your devices and are not synced through iCloud; Apple Health carries your weigh-ins and water between your devices. Your profile (sex, date of birth, height, activity level), your plan and targets, food logs, custom foods and recipes are synced across your own devices through your personal iCloud account (CloudKit). We do not operate servers that store this data, and we cannot read it.

So that Spotlight and Siri can answer “how many calories have I had today”, Snack places your last seven days of daily totals — the date, calories eaten, calories burned, calories remaining, and your target — into this device's search index, where Spotlight and Siri can read it. It is marked to stay unreadable while the device is locked, and is removed by Delete All Data (on each other device, the next time Snack is opened there) or by deleting the app. It is kept on every device you use Snack on, iPad included.

So that the Snack widgets can show today’s numbers on your Home Screen and Lock Screen, Snack keeps one small file of today’s totals — calories eaten, calories burned, your target, protein, carbs and fat against their targets, today’s water, and, for each day of the past week, calories eaten minus calories burned — in a place on this device that only Snack and its widgets can read. It is written when you leave the app, becomes readable once the device has been unlocked after it was switched on so the Lock Screen can show it, and is removed by Delete All Data or by deleting the app. It never leaves the device.

Apple Health

Only with your permission, Snack reads active energy burned, steps, workouts, weight and water from Apple Health, on each device you use it on. Your date of birth, sex and height are typed into Snack by you, never read from Health. This is how your calorie target adjusts to the day you actually had. The only things Snack writes back are weight and water: once you have allowed it to write, the weights and water you log in Snack are saved to Apple Health, which is how they reach your other devices, and Log Weight has a switch to keep any single weigh-in out. Once, when it can, Snack also copies the weigh-ins and water you logged earlier into Apple Health. If you later delete a weigh-in or water entry in Snack, the sample Snack wrote is removed from Apple Health too. Snack never touches samples written by other apps.

Apple Health data never leaves your devices. It isn't stored in iCloud or sent to us or anyone else. You can review or revoke Snack's Health access at any time in the iOS Settings app under Privacy & Security → Health → Snack.

Camera

If you use the barcode scanner or nutrition-label scanner, Snack uses your camera to read the code or label. Reading the barcode and the label text happens entirely on your device using Apple's Vision framework.

On iOS 27, two features can use Apple's Private Cloud Compute for analysis. Identifying a packaged product sends the text read off its label and its barcode, plus the label photo on devices whose model can see images. Estimating a plate of food sends the photo. Private Cloud Compute is run by Apple, not by us and not by any other company. Apple does not store what is sent and does not log it. We never receive it, and the photo is never saved on your device either. On iOS 26, neither feature sends a photo anywhere.

AI Quick Add

When you describe a meal in plain language, Snack estimates it using Apple's Foundation Models. On iOS 26 the description is processed entirely on your iPhone. On iOS 27 it may instead go to Apple's Private Cloud Compute — Apple-run inference, never a third party — with the on-device model as the fallback.

Either way, the estimate is made from the words you typed and nothing else. No Apple Health value ever goes into the request, and the description is never sent to us or to any external AI company.

When information leaves your device

A few features contact outside services. Only what's needed for that feature is sent, and never your health data:

No account

Snack has no accounts and no sign-in. There is no email address, no password, no sign-up, and no user ID — not even a private relay address. Your data rides your iCloud account and your subscription rides your App Store account, both managed by Apple. We hold nothing that could identify you — unless you email us: then we have your email address and what you wrote, and keep them only for as long as the conversation needs.

What we don't do

Snack has no analytics SDKs, no advertising, and no third-party trackers. We do not sell, rent, or trade your information. Diagnostic breadcrumbs used to investigate crashes stay on your device unless you choose to share them: Settings › About › Share Diagnostic Info hands you a short text file — app events and errors, your iOS version, your device model and whether your data is saving to iCloud, with no food, weight or health figures — that goes only where you send it.

Your choices

While your subscription is active, from Snack's Settings you can export your data and use Delete All Data — this removes your profile, food logs, custom foods and recipes from your device and from your iCloud; removes the weigh-ins, water, activity and workouts Snack keeps on this device, along with its Spotlight entries and widget file; and returns you to setup. Two routes work whether or not you subscribe: deleting the app removes the on-device copy, and the synced copy can be removed from your iCloud storage settings (Settings › [your name] › iCloud) at any time.

Two things deliberately survive it. Weight and water that Snack saved into Apple Health are not removed by Delete All Data, because that copy is yours and other apps may rely on it — delete it in the Health app if you want it gone. (Deleting a single weigh-in or water entry inside Snack does remove its Apple Health sample; Delete All Data does not.) And your subscription is unaffected, because Apple manages billing; cancel it in Settings › [your name] › Subscriptions. Apple retains its own purchase records either way.

You can revoke Health or camera permissions at any time in iOS Settings. If you delete the app, on-device data is removed; data in iCloud can be managed from your iCloud storage settings.

Children

Snack is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
